I am Hasnah, a multidisciplinary artist working with painting and craft, currently based in Japan since 2022. I studied philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia, and later continued my Master's in the Department of Art Studies and Curatorial Practice at Tokyo University of the Arts. These experiences shape how I approach art, not only as a form of expression, but also as a way of questioning, reflecting, and understanding the world around me.

My Indonesian heritage, together with my everyday surroundings in Japan, continues to influence my artistic process. Through documenting my work, I’ve come to realise that art doesn’t always need words, yet it can still carry feelings, memories, and deeply personal thoughts.

Working across painting, collage, and handmade objects, I aim to capture quiet moments, emotions, and everyday experiences that might otherwise go unnoticed. My process is intuitive, allowing materials, colours, and forms to guide me rather than forcing a fixed outcome.

This space is a way of sharing my practice in an intimate, tangible form and of reaching out to others across places. For me, creating is not about perfection, but about being present. I’m drawn to in-between spaces, where things feel unfinished, subtle, or ambiguous. Here, I feel the strongest connection, both to the work itself and to those who experience it.

Making art is an ongoing journey. It allows me to stay curious, reflect, and connect—both with myself and with others. I hope this feeling finds its way to you.
